German producer Ulrich Schnauss has been making outlier electronic music for around 20 years, with a droney ambience that recalls the more delicate passages of Tim Hecker or Brian Eno.
Earlier albums channelled floaty Tangerine Dream passages with ornate synth arrangements and shoegaze elements — and he even became a full-time member of Tangerine Dream after their legendary founding member Edgar Froese died in 2015.
More dread has crept up in recent years — his 2016 album No Further Ahead Than Today eases on the sweetness, and it’ll get even more intense in the live setting.
