Girlschool’s out for summer

Girlschool are the longest-running all-female rock group — still sticking their fingers up to metal conventions after 40-odd years.

Formed in 1978, the English act added a punky, poppy spin to the so-called New Wave of British Heavy Metal and were huge by the early 80s — headlining Reading Festival in 1981 and lumped together with iconic acts like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. They even dabbled in some metal sexual objectification — check out the musclemen flexing in their video for Don’t Call It Love.

With only four original albums since 1992 it’ll be more of a nostalgia trip, with no veteran fans complaining about that.
