Can you really do Hellfest at home?

Of all festival experiences, a full-on extreme metal camping weekender might well be the most difficult to replicate in the virtual space.

The iconic French festival Hellfest has had to call off its event for the second year in a row, but organisers are laying out three 12-hour virtual headbanging from tonight (Thursday) until Saturday. This Hellfest From Home event might be even tougher after they announced the double weekender for next year with an A-list line-up grabbed with a strategy that was presumably, “GIVE US FUCKING EVERYBODY”.

From noon to midnight you get multiple stages of exclusive live performances from the festival ground on the Mainstage, Valley, Warzone and Temple stages from international and French bands including Injer; Ensiferum; Hexecutor, Black Bomb A, Dirty Fonzy and loads more.

There’s also a line-up of streamed Hellfest sets from the vaults, including iconic headliners by the likes of Deep Purple, Deicide, Testament, Cradle of Filth and loads more. You can even create your own avatar and wander round the virtual festival site — and presumably nod respectfully when you spot an avatar in an approved black metal tee.
