A Lauryn hill ticket is always a gamble…

THERE’S been a lot of talk about the fragile nature of the Oasis comeback next summer — and intense touching of wood hoping Liam and Noel can last 12 months without killing each other.

But this Fugees tour — and anything else featuring Lauryn Hill — would be an even bigger minefield for insurance companies. One of hip-hop and R&B’s most iconic and influential stars, Hill sadly hits headlines more for her erratic live performances these days. She’s known for being late, awkward song reimagining, and lecturing about the general mess of the world.

The Hill-fronted Fugees also cancelled their entire US tour, while this European tour is miraculously still going ahead, but don’t celebrate till she walks onstage.

This tour is a celebration of two albums — 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees’ The Score (1996). Miseducation… is one of the all-time classic, blurring the lines between rap and soul, and becoming a year zero piece for most of today’s R&B artists. The Score is a hip-hop golden age classic, with its effortless fusion of rap, reggae and soulful melodies.

With two landmark albums to get through, there’s a lot resting on Ms Hill this weekend…

Lauryn Hill plays the 3Arena in Dublin on October 7
