French artist Heloise Letissier takes the art of pop music seriously, saying her new album Chris is an attempt to “give justice to being someone complex in the pop world”.
Her second record as Christine and the Queens is another synth-pop funk-soul master-stroke with hooks around every corner, among themes of identity, sexuality and power. One case in point is her collaboration with Dam-Funk, Girlfriend, with its neon late-night squiggly synth leads.
On her previous tour for her debut album she presented an audio-visual spectacular with incredible self-choreographed modern dance interpretations, and this time round her more masculine alter-ego Chris takes centre stage without losing any of the fluidity and transcendence.
- Christine and the Queens play the RDS in Dublin on Friday, November 30
