The Armed call themselves a “punk rock band from Detroit, Michigan” on their Bandcamp page, but they’re selling themselves short.
The band take hardcore rage as a starting point and wrangle in atonal electronics, noise-rock and Fuck Buttons-style widescreen synth breakdowns. But no matter how they self-identify, their gig in the Workmans Club will be channelling every classic punk or hardcore gig you’ve ever been to or read about. This is music that sounds like it’s about to derail at any minute, but just about stays on track.
All the songs on their latest album ONLY LOVE are in ALL CAPS, and I’m guessing your texts to mates after seeing them play would be the same.
