Dublin Alive! Is a free Dublin City Council day-long festival in partnership with Axis Ballymun, taking place all day in Mount Bernard Park in Cabra in the northside.
It’s billed as a family-focused event, with kids’ art workshops, a clown pop-up show, jugglers, a string quartet, The New Brass Kings playing hip-hop covers, and a performance art piece including a giant flying octopus.
The standout show in more ways than one is headlined by Rising Damp, aka Dublin producer Michelle Doherty, whose debut album Petrol Factory is a dystopian vision of clanging industrial drones, noise and visceral body music. Maybe she’s been working on a pre-watershed PG version of her live show.
Also on the bill is Dublin artist Sean Being, whose introspective deadpan cold wave, electro-pop and droning ambience will add an urban edge to the green space. Let’s hope this pair can start some of the kids in Cabra into a path to the underground.
